Radon & Water Quality Testing

What Is Radon and Why Should I Test for It?

Radon is an invisible, odorless radioactive gas that enters buildings from the soil beneath foundations. Elevated radon levels are commonly found in homes and buildings throughout Maryland and Washington, D.C., particularly in properties with basements or crawlspaces. Because radon cannot be seen or smelled, testing is the only way to determine whether elevated levels are present. The EPA identifies radon as the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.

Our Radon Testing Process

Prescient Environmental performs radon testing using calibrated SunRADON 1028-XP digital continuous radon monitors. Devices are placed in the lowest livable level of the home or building and continuously record radon concentrations over a standard 48-hour testing period. After monitoring is complete, the device is retrieved and the hourly data is reviewed for trends and peak exposure levels. A certified report is typically delivered within one to two business days. All testing is conducted by a certified professional, and Prescient Environmental is certified through the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP) to perform residential and commercial radon assessments in accordance with EPA guidelines.

Water Quality Testing

Prescient Environmental also offers water quality testing to evaluate drinking water for potential contaminants. Water samples are collected using proper sampling procedures and submitted to accredited laboratories for analysis of parameters such as bacteria, metals, and other potential contaminants depending on the property and client concerns. Results are compiled into a clear report with interpretation of laboratory findings and guidance if elevated conditions are identified.
